Out Of Dogfood
Just like a number of other colleagues at MS, I’ve been told that my function ceases to exist. Call it luck, but I can stick around until June 30th. I’ve been looking around for other jobs within the company, because one mysterious way or the other, I do like this place and the happy times it gave me a lot. I can honestly say that in the past 2.5 years, every day I loved going to work. But yeah. Sometimes you’re not in the driver’s seat.
So, what’s next? No idea yet. I’m looking around to see what’s on the market, but I could have wished for a better moment in time to go out jobhunting. Most likely I’ll try to unwind and find a new purpose to dedicate my time and energy to. Next to that, I think it’s about time (and I have time now, at last) to upgrade myself a bit. Still have a pile of books to enjoy, which can be done very smoothly in a comfy chair in the sunshine with a fresh daiquiri next to me. I picked up running again, and I plan to run at least 20 miles a week. Not much, but it’s a start. It’s about time too I lose some of that hotel/airport-fat I’ve been collecting the past 2 years, which orbits around my spine.
On the one hand, it’s a bad time to get fired, but on the other hand… it’s summertime. Which is in fact the best time of the year to be unemployed…
I’ll spend my last days at Microsoft revamping the ‘House of the future’, aka Living Tomorrow. A sweet project to do during the last laps of the race. Too bad I ran out of coins to start the next level.
If you think you might know something that can help me out feel free to ping me. Any help is much appreciated.
You can find me on Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn as well.
See you around!

Yo Miel,
good to see you can put things into perspective and have an optimistic attitude. I’m sure you’ll find something up yer alley. You know the people, you got the skills.
Hard to see these short sighted MSFT decisions lately. I’m sure they’ll regret it one day and ‘ll miss you guys. But by then I’m confident you’re rocking some great company again.
Take care, and see you around!

Quite late to pick this one up, but like with Kris I’m quite confident you’ll find a new challenge easy enough. I’ll keep my ears and eyes open for what it’s worth. Until then, try to enjoy the “time off”.

Hey Miel,
Hoorde net dat dit gebeurd was. Bummer! Succes bij het vinden van een nieuwe uitdaging. Wie weet, een eigen bedrijf? Mielcrosoft?
