Desktop Goodness: Circle Dock 0.9.2 Alpha 8.1

If you’re into something really cool to show off with your friends and family, check out this superb desktop organizer. No more lists, quick launch menus and colums of shortcuts, you can manage it all in this superb and small client. If you take a few minutes to pimp it in the settings, your desktop can look like this (mine now):

desktop

I’ve created a Circle Dock, made it look square, reset the size of the icons to display and docked it in the middle of the screen with a ‘hot zone’ on the left. Then I removed the quicklaunch menu from the taskbar and set it to auto-hide, since all my shortcuts are now in my center dock. Empty space. Aaaah, pure goodness. And the coolest part is that it has the ability to run from a USB key on computers with the .Net Framework 2.0 or above installed.

Does this tool add any value except for the part that it appealingly manages your shortcuts? No. But it sure looks a lot cooler than the endless rows of shortcuts I see on a lot of PCs. Plus, with the hotkeys or zone set, you can call the dock and it will flow over the current windows so you can easily pick your next stop. You can have multiple docks, but I didn’t really like that. It’s just another way to experience Windows, be it a little cooler than the way Windows get shipped.
