SkyDrive Relaunch
Windows Live SkyDrive is now bigger, better and wider spread. The team heard the customer feeback and and took those by heart. More space. More countries. Today they’re giving us both. You now have five times the space you had before — that’s 5GB of free online storage for your favorite documents, pictures, and other files.

SkyDrive is also available now in 38 countries/regions. In addition to Great Britain, India, and the U.S., we’re live in Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Finland, France, Guatemala, Honduras, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Portugal, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, and Turkey.

This release also includes bug fixes and improvements to make the site even faster and more reliable. We’re proud of this release — so proud, in fact, that we’re officially removing the Beta tag!
The only thing I still hope for, but I know that’s not really going to happen, is that the 50mb limit would be pulled up to 150mb (or more). That would REALLY rock! But that’s just me, hoping. There’s no official signs of that yet.

well, to begin with http://box.net offers 1 Gb free in their basic account. To get the 5 Gb you refer too, you can sign up for a 2 week free trial. After that you need to pay 7.95 USD per month. Compared to SkyDrive, that’s 7.95 USD per month more expensive ;-)
