EE Summit Day 1
Yesterday we had a few really interesting presentations of which unfortunately I can’t tell too much because most of the information we got was ‘not for public eyes or ears’. The things that are cooking here are pretty impressive. After the round of who’s who, and some talks about what exactly the role is we have and how we can make the most of our position towards the audiences we address, we got extended demo from John Pincus about Windows Live, where it’s heading to and what it should become. Top secret stuff, and it made many of us drool.
We had a session about Windows Mobile and it’s future, where we got to see a few devices that were ready for the market, but not ‘out there’ yet and they looked awesome. I can’t wait to get a phone upgrade and use some of the things that were shown.
Neil Woodgate brought a small flightcase filled with digital toys from the past and the future… I think he can start his own museum of mobile devices. That guy really has a very cool job.
We also got a branded on10.net Zune for keepers, so I finally have a nice device to play with while I’m on the plane or at the airport. Then Cesar Menendez from the Zune team came over to tell us more about the philosophy around the brand. I’ve got some nice ideas for the project I’m helping to set up at Mix07 which is all about Zune. You’ll hear more from that later.
There was also a session about Windows Home Server and we got some information about what they’re trying to accomplish with it, what the strategy is behind the product, who’ll be releasing the hardware and what it all can do. It was really cool to have a ‘personal’ demo from CJ Saretto, who’s been part of the project from the beginning. And it’s even cooler to know where it’s all going. It’s going to be a very handy tool, and I can’t wait to buy one to have it at home. It’ll solve a lot of issues I have to work around nowadays, and the remote access is a superhandy feature. I can’t tell you what exatly it is that’s going to follow the remote access function, but damn. So good. Wait and see for this one… I have to check what info I can share, but I’ll definitely get back to this.
Then Barry from the Vista Ultimate team came in to talk about the follow-up they’re already working on, the next OS after Vista the updates that are almost ready to be rolled out… Interesting talk too. Again NDAs everywhere. Too bad, because it has a very very high scoopish value. If only you knen.
I can’t wait to see what today’s going to bring…

I knew I should have come for the pre TechReady events but my manager said it was not a priority and I really wanted some extra time with my family. Well I will be out there later tonight and perhaps there will be nice gifts yet to come.
