You're an "Enthusiast Evangelist" for Microsoft?

Someone that actually, let me get this straight, _likes_ using Microsoft software? Admires their business practices? Suffers from mild retardation?

You need to get out more.

Miel are you retarded?? Or did they pay up for this?
How the fuck mate can u like or love these MS products??

Take a _good_ reading of these links:

http://www.vanwensveen.nl/rants/microsoft/IhateMS.html

http://www.drizzle.com/~lettvin/2006/11/windows-shutdown-crapfest.htm

IS Windows Vista ready _for YOU_??? - http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/01/29/windows_vista_still_not_ready/

and last, but not least "A Cost Analysis of Windows Vista Content Protection" - http://www.cs.auckland.ac.nz/~pgut001/pubs/vista_cost.html

A good friend's of mine list:

"1) A company that charges $150 per phone call for problems with its software, has no incentive to create decent software. In fact, they get paid to write poor software.
2) Standards in Web Design cost the industry Billions just to write specific Mikeysoft Explorer Code.
3) The free Virus/Malware kit features since 1998 that this company just can't seem to fix with all the PhD's it hires and fundamentally, doesn't understand why LINUX, SELinux are going to become the defacto standard in CIA and Corporate computing security.
4) The Endless nights of pages way back when I was a Mikeysoft dork admin, just to reboot a computer at 3AM, EVERY night for 2 years. Some things never change.
5) The balls this company has to push the industry .net as a "Business Solution" as if we are all just stupid and don't recognize it for what it is: A bloated Framework designed to sell more Microsoft servers and software and a feeble attempt to kill java. NOT a software framework to solve your business problems.
6)The whole Microsoft Office thing. Gad where do I start? How about Incompatible with Itself, specifically designed so that Excel 97 Macro's don't quite import perfectly into 2000.
7) DICTATING to everyone that Windows 2000 is no longer supported, we refuse to fix bugs in our software unless you upgrade. If you don't we do not care if 2000 meets your business needs, our shareholders demand you buy licenses for all your stuff AGAIN.
8) Reboot the OS everytime you make a friggin change. Reboot! Reboot! Reboot! Reboot!
9) Trying to Kill Linux with the whole trusted computing thing and working on proprietary BIOS'es. How SAD.
10) And last but not least....creating legions of Idiot Admins that can't do anything unless they are lead around by a OK or CANCEL button. God help them if they don't have a setup Icon someplace! One company who single handedly has put the US back into the Dark ages while the rest of the world MOVES ON without us."

So.. how the hell can u love and like these products and MORE.. advertise them?? Are u really brain-dead? Or just really REALLY ignorant? MS - its a cash cow, killing everything in its path - from busineses to inovation in individuals.. and a lot of other beautifull things.

Wake the fuck up people!

Hi Miel,

Looks really cool, I wonder what the longer term impact will be of campaigns that run through Second Life. There is certainly much more interest from the clients we speak to, who are interested in engagement in social media... Who would best people be to contact in Crayon (I think Jaffe is too busy)

I had a chat with Kris this week and he showed me Vista... I was thinking I must get myself some of that, but just bought a laptop, so is upgrade going to be worth it? My lovely new laptop says glowingly Windows Vista Capable...

I saw you Bert and Clo on TV, didn't quite understand all the Flemish but I guess you all like Second Life.

See you around.

================
Hey Simon,

To answer your questions: yes, yes, maybe and no.

… and I think I’m more on the road meeting people and outside than you are. But hey, thanks for taking the time to comment. Don’t you just love it you have a place to vent?
================

A worthy response sir, I applaud your tact and restraint.

Nonetheless, you dont address Simons point - you are being paid to say you like Vista ( and hence we have no way or knowing whether you indeed believe it to be a steaming, festering pile better left unseen, unheard, and definately untouched.. or not ), and you are employed by one of the more.. ah.. shall we say... 'legally challenged' corporations in existance, Microsoft having committed more than its fair share of law-breaking, monopoly abuse, patent fraud, copyright infringement, price fixing, and other trifling .. misunderstandings over the years.

For what its worth, I've been employed in IT heavily for the last 10 years and have seen Microsoft go from a serious player in the industry, to the laughing stock, hated and loathed by even its most close partners and vendors, to say nothing of the general public at large. Every criminal misuse of technology - DRM, viruses, spyware, adware, spam zombies, botnets and trojans have gone hand-in-hand with every new Microsoft release, all infesting every new product even before its official launch. I have no doubt that in this regard Vista will be _the worst windows ever_, as all sucessive windows releases since Windows2000 ( and Office 2000, and Media Player circa 2000, and IE of the same time period.. are we seeing a picture of a company in decline here? I think so!! ) have been demonstrably inferior to its predecessor.

But hey.. Vista.. woo!! I hope the view from the Titanics deck is one you truly do appreciate, because you're sinking fast, and the water is very dark and cold.

[...] Miel Van Opstal : Vista Launch in Second Life - “I’ve had a lot of discussions with people in Second Life about brands and marketing, but I do know that everyone is really ‘pro’, because at least we didn’t just buy our way in. We come in with something that has never been done before, on an unseen scale. And we don’t take from the community, we give. That’s the best place to be for a brand.“ [...]

[...] I spoke with Alex Gibson from the Persuader’s Podcast on Friday, the link is now up. The podcast is focussed on marketing related topics and companies offering services around this area. I talked about what companies are doing in social media and why there is increasing focus on measurement. I also referenced the Vista launch which had simultaneous launch in Second Life. For me, there was added fun as this was also a live broadcast on the Dublin channel Anna Livia FM, Dublin of course is my birth place and spiritual home… [...]

It's been............January, February, March, April, May, June, & now July........
I am still waiting. I bought a Vista the first day it came out, AND,
I can no longer check back into SECOND LIFE.

SL is not answering questions about this matter thru Email.
so......
will August, September, October, November, December
bring any resolutions to the SL problems with VISTA ?????

What's the hold up ?????
Lots of money SL is losing by NOT being VISTA compatible.

See you again SL, when ever VISTA is welcomed back in.

Thanks,
